Special Paper Abstract
Interior Wood Finishing: Industrial Use Guide
Robert Tichy. 1997. (113 pp) SP25 $10.00
It comes as no surprise to those in the business of manufacturing or applying interior wood coatings, that the finishing operation is one of the most important steps in creating value in their products. Not to diminish the importance of substrate preparation, but due to the cost of materials and labor, finishing is where profits can be made or lost. It is the finish that is the most obvious evidence of product quality. It is the finish upon which the customer bases his or her buying decision. A poor finish will relegate the product to the "sale" shelf, or even worse make it unsaleable.
It is due to the economic importance of the finishing step, that this Industrial Use Guide was prepared. It is the intention of this Guide to provide interior wood finishing guidance to:
Those in business
Those contemplating a change in their current process, or
Those considering entering the business
The Guide will discuss both water-borne and solvent-borne interior stains and coatings. It will cover virtually all aspects of interior wood finishing from, coating types and substrate preparation to application equipment and environmental regulations. The Guide will provide enought detail so that many of the user's questions will be answered directly. However, if your questions are not answered explicitly, you will know where to go, to quickly obtain those answers.
Many terms, common to the industry, are used throughout this Guide. The reader is directed to the Glossary at the back of the book for definisitions to any unfamiliar terms.
Lists of materials and services suppliers along with state, local, and federal
agencies are included. As with any list, the information contained is current
at the time of this printing and are subject to change at any time. Listings
contained in this guide do not imply an endorsement by the Washington State
Department of Trade and Economic Development or Washington State University,
but are intended to provide assistance in obtaining information, services and
products.
