Dr. Ivan Eastin, Associate Director and
Associate Professor, CINTRAFOR, College of Forest Resources, UW, Seattle, WA
Dr. Eastin has a joint faculty appointment with the
College of Forest Resources and the Center for International Trade in Forest
Products (CINTRAFOR) at the University of Washington. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Forest Products
Marketing, the International Trade and Marketing of Forest Products, and the
Role of Forests in Economic Development in the Tropics. His research interests include evaluating
the factors that influence the introduction and acceptance of lesser-used
timber species, improving the marketing of non-timber forest products,
exploring the substitution between softwood lumber and substitute materials in the
US residential construction industry, understanding factors that influence the
competitiveness of US forest products exports, and evaluating the factors that
influence the transfer of North American 2x4 residential construction
technology in Japan. Dr. Eastin lived
in west Africa for four years; first as a Peace Corps volunteer where he worked
as a faculty member at the University of Liberia in Monrovia and later as a
Fulbright scholar at the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana in Kumasi.
