Don Haid, Manager, Raw Materials Industry Analysis, Weyerhaeuser Company, Federal Way, WA

 

Don Haid is the manager for raw material and timber industry analysis for Weyerhaeuser Company. Educated in both Canada and the US, his credentials include an undergraduate degree in forestry and masters and Ph.D. in forest economics. His work experience spans government service as well as consulting before moving full time into the forest industry. Prior to joining Weyerhaeuser Don worked as an economist for the Economic Studies unit of the Canadian Forest Service followed by a stint as a consultant with HA Simons (now AMEC).

 

As part of Marketing and Economic research Don works in a variety of roles to support the decision making process. This includes industry analysis and strategic direction for the wood products and timber sectors but also the fiber side of the pulp and paper sector. Notable among responsibilities are price forecasting and involvement in the capital allocation process. In addition, a great deal of time has recently gone into the policy area as the softwood lumber dispute between Canada and the US and its market distorting consequences drag on.
