Matthew P. Brady, General Manager, AF&PA China,
Shanghai
Matthew assumed the leadership of AF&PA's China program in July 2002. It is anticipated that he will not only take over the current program but will be the key contact for AF&PA and member companies in determining new segments in China where US wood products can penetrate and achieve dominant market share.
Matthew has lived and worked in Asia for the last ten years. He began his career with the U.S. Foreign Service in both Taiwan and Hong Kong, where he was responsible for promoting American business, working with Hong Kong officials on regulatory and policy issues, and reporting on economic developments affecting US companies in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
After leaving the Foreign Service, Matthew gained consulting experience with several Fortune 50 corporations, where he helped to design and build China-based business structures. He was later director of market development for a China-based start-up company focused on upgrading the beverage ingredients industry and upstream agribusiness development projects, working with major multinational and regional customers. His work took him to remote regions of China and many Southeast Asian countries, where he gained an intimate understanding of the agro-economic business models in these areas.
Matthew graduated Magna Cum Laude from Washington and Lee University in Virginia and recently received an MBA with distinction from INSEAD. He completed coursework in Chinese language and area studies under the US State Department and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
